Described as ‘fireball punk-rock’ by Joey Ramone – Blackfire is a Navajo family band from Arizona. ‘Smoke Songs’ takes place during the their most recent tour. No matter the size of the concert and for no monetary gain, Blackfire perform workshops and music to young people. With a music that is both angry and redemptive, traditional and modern, the band and family attempt to transfer their dark history of forced relocation, racism and human rights violations into a form of creative expression and youth empowerment. On the road, at home and in the studio,  Blackfire’s politics provoke audiences to consider what it means to be an indigenous young person today and into the future.
