2015 POWFest Selected films Announced!

The 2015 films were judged by a panel of industry professionals along with film enthusiasts who evaluated over 600 submissions on the merits of creativity, production value, aesthetic vision and storytelling craft. Congratulations to all the women directors who were selected; we are very excited to present such a strong collection of films from around the world during the 8th annual festival! Check out the list of selected films here. Full schedule will be available February 1st and tickets will go on-sale mid-February.


Statement regarding the 2014 Oscar Nominations

Social Media was on fire last week after the Academy announced the 2014 Oscar nominees. POWFest would like to congratulation all of the women who were nominated however, would like to offer some feedback regarding the lack of diversity in the top categories. POWFest is looking for some awesome volunteers to help with this year’s festival. To learn more and sign up for specific jobs, please join us on Saturday, February 14th from 10am until 12pm at the OMPA offices. A training day and pre-festival site tour will take place on Saturday, March 7th from 12pm to 2pm at The Hollywood Theatre. Upcoming Events

REEL Feminism 2015 will kick off with LUNAFEST ~ Monday January 26, 2015, 7pm at The Clinton St. Theater

Reel Feminism is a monthly film series dedicated to showcasing films made by women that address issues of gender equality and the varied nature of women’s lived experiences. By showcasing these films, Reel Feminism shines a spotlight on stories and perspectives that are often overlooked or dismissed by the film industry. Screenings take place on the fourth Monday of every month at Clinton Street Theater (cstpdx.com) and a portion of the proceeds are donated to community partners.

Our 2015 season kicks off on January 26th at 7pm with a POWFest annual favorite, LUNAFEST, a collection of short films directed by women. Tickets are available at the door for a suggested donation of $5-$10, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund. Doors open at 6:30pm and no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

POWFest will partner with MetroEast Community Media to host the 2015 POWGirls. In keeping with our mission to support the next generation of women filmmakers, POWFest will host POWGirls in 2015, a unique program specifically designed for girls ages 15-18. Over the course of four days a group of selected girls will develop, produce, edit and present a film during the Youth Shorts program at the 2015 POWFest March 12-15.

The goal of POWFest is to eliminate the gender disparity that exists for women directors and to create opportunities for women throughout the film industry. The festival has featured accomplished directors, as well as dynamic young & up-and-coming directors, some from Portland´s burgeoning film industry. POWFest is dedicated to promoting and creating professional development and networking opportunities for women filmmakers of every discipline and skill-set/level. Beyond filmmaker participation, we are also dedicated to bringing to Portland programming that is thought-provoking and will engage the audience well beyond the theater.
