A001_C011_02055E_S000PLATINUM was a year long collaboration between the director and an all female cast to produce original choreography for the screen. Experimental, surrealist, and slightly camp, this film is Katharine So’s first short to hit the festival circuit. So seeks to explore gender norms, female representation, and the limitations placed on femininity and beauty in our media. What are the consequences of differing from the norm? How do we see ourselves and others based off a strict idea of perfection? Where have we been in the past and is change coming? Should we fight or should we love one another? These kinds of questions are explored through dance, physicality, costume, and mise en scene in a variety of whimsical and absurd scenarios. Traditional sound and structure are thrown out the window. The film was produced out of the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in Montreal, Canada.
