WIF-PDX’s biggest event of the year is the festive holiday party where members and non-members can meet and reconnect with fellow Portland film & media professionals. Put on your red dress, blue suede shoes or whatever says “glam” to you – and don’t forget business cards. This isn’t just a holiday soiree, it’s a fun networking event!
REEL Feminism presents ~ LADONNA HARRIS: INDIAN 101~ Monday November 24th, 7pm
From Comanche filmmaker Julianna Brannum, chronicles the life of Comanche activist and national civil rights leader LaDonna Harris and the role that she has played in Native and mainstream America history since the 1960s. In this new verite style documentary, Brannum, the great niece of Harris, celebrates her life and the personal struggles that led her to become a voice for Native people and her contemporary work to strengthen and rebuild indigenous communities and train emerging Native leaders around the world. Spaces still available for POWGirls 2015!
POWGirls is open to girls age 15-18 and will take place on Thursday/Friday evenings and all day Saturday/Sunday during the last weekend in January. Participants will produce a short film from scratch and will have the opportunity to attend POWFest as filmmakers in March! Application, fees, scholarship and registration information are now available – sign up here! The goal of POWFest is to eliminate the gender disparity that exists for women directors and to create opportunities for women throughout the film industry. The festival has featured accomplished directors, as well as dynamic young & up-and-coming directors, some from Portland´s burgeoning film industry. POWFest is dedicated to promoting and creating professional development and networking opportunities for women filmmakers of every discipline and skill-set/level. Beyond filmmaker participation, we are also dedicated to bringing to Portland programming that is thought-provoking and will engage the audience well beyond the theater.
