OCTOBER 2014 NEWSLETTER –POWGIRLS 2015 + VOLUNTEER EVENT + TONS OF FALL FILM EVENTS!
POWGirls 2015 registration is now open!
POWGirls is open to girls age 15-18 and will take place on Thursday/Friday evenings and all day Saturday/Sunday during the last weekend in January at MetroEast Community Media. Participants will produce a short film from scratch and will have the opportunity to attend POWFest as filmmakers in March! Application, fees, scholarship and registration information are now available – sign up here! If you are interested in becoming a POWGirl or have questions regarding this program, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
In 2014, POWFest was able to launch POWGirls, a mentorship program for young women filmmakers. Over the course of three days–taking place during the 2014 POWFest–a group of selected girls developed, produced, edited and screened a film during the Youth Shorts program at the 2014 POWFest on Sunday March 9th. Want to know more about POWFest and volunteer for the upcoming 2015 festival? Join POWFest staff for a screening of A KNOCK OUT at The Clinton Street Theater on Monday October 27th at 7pm. We will gather after the film at Dots to discuss the film and chat about the various ways you can help support the festival in the coming months. A sliding scale donation is appreciated with everything over $5 going directly to support the work of In Other Words Feminist Community Center and Bookstore!

POWFest is happy to support Reel Feminism at The Clinton Street Theater! A film series highlighting movies directed by women and genderqueer individuals that have a feminist perspective or address feminist topics. Engaging, inspiring, sometimes difficult to watch, these films are followed by a facilitated audience discussion. Clear your calendar for the 4th Monday of every month at 7pm.

The goal of POWFest is to eliminate the gender disparity that exists for women directors and to create opportunities for women throughout the film industry. The festival has featured accomplished directors, as well as dynamic young & up-and-coming directors, some from Portland´s burgeoning film industry. POWFest is dedicated to promoting and creating professional development and networking opportunities for women filmmakers of every discipline and skill-set/level. Beyond filmmaker participation, we are also dedicated to bringing to Portland programming that is thought-provoking and will engage the audience well beyond the theater.
