Welcome to our first ever POWFest Newsletter! The POWFest Team is in full swing with planning the 7th Annual festival which is set for March 6-9, 2014! We have received several requests to keep our community informed about POWFest happenings year-round so we thought is best to start a monthly communication that can update you on the yearly festival as well as special events and unique ways you can engage with POWFest year-round. It is not our intention to flood your e-inbox, so you may adjust your delivery settings by clicking the link at the end of this email. Please help us spread the word about POWFest and forward this newsletter to a friend. See you in March!

The goal of POWFest is to eliminate the gender disparity that exists for women directors and to create opportunities for women throughout the film industry. The festival has featured accomplished directors, as well as dynamic young & up-and-coming directors, some from Portland´s burgeoning film industry. POWFest is dedicated to promoting and creating professional development and networking opportunities for women filmmakers of every discipline and skill-set/level. Beyond filmmaker participation, we are also dedicated to bringing programming to Portland that is thought-provoking and will engage the audience well beyond the theater.

2013 POWFest Summer Series ~ Recap
POWFest and NW Documentary  joined forces for a week long documentary series which took place at the end of August at McMenamins’ Mission Theatre. The week-long event included the summer Homegrown Doc Festival, family programming, fresh documentaries, and a collection of POWFest favorites from the past six years. The series concluded on Friday August 30th with a special engagement with award-winning documentary director Ondi Timoner. Ms. Timoner came to Portland and discussed her career in film, and screened the documentaries We Live in Public and DIG!

It was a great event and POWFest accomplished a goal of reaching out to Portland’s Westside and engaging with a whole new audience as part of The Mission Theater’s “Assembly” programming!

We would like to thank our sponsors for making this programming possible:
New Belgium Brewing Company, The Faerie Godmother Family Fund, Zipcar, REX Post and Cibo.
