That’s a Wrap on the 10th Annual POWFest!

What an incredible weekend and a perfect celebration to honor our 10th Annual festival! We screened over 70 films and hosted filmmakers from across the US as well as Canada and Mexico! A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who supported POWFest 2017 as filmmakers, volunteers, sponsors and audience members. We cannot do this without you! Check out photos on our Facebook Page and enjoy videos on our Vimeo Page.

A huge Thank You to our Guest of Honor, Cheryl Dunye who dedicated so much of her time to the festival. She shared her experience as a pioneering director during our private Director Breakfast, took our POWGirls through an exclusive workshop just for them, and engaged audiences with an intergenerational talk and Q&A between screenings of her ground-breaking films, THE WATERMELON WOMAN and THE OWLS.

On opening night, the audience was treated with a special performance from MILCK and screening of Academy Award winning director Barbara Kopple’s latest documentary, THIS IS EVERYTHING: GIGI GORGEOUS. The evening wrapped up with a collection of QUIRKY Shorts, which has become an annual tradition at the festival.

On Friday, POWFest, with support from NW Documentary presented several Educational Panels on the topics of: Creating and Maintaining Safe Spaces for Women’s Voices, Documentary Filmmaking in a New Political Climate, and Beyond Mentoring. Audiences then were treated to a screening of the Faerie Godmother Award for Stellar Filmmaking award winner – IN THE RADIANT CITY and collection of shorts films on DARK TALES.

The festival continued on Saturday with a day packed with amazing and inspiring film including documentaries: THE REVIVAL  and OUT OF ORDER as well as shorts compilations on the topics of FAMILY DRAMA and EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE.  Guest of Honor, Cheryl Dunye rounded out the evening with screenings of her films THE WATERMELON WOMAN, BLACK IS BLUE and THE OWLS.

Sunday was equally full of films, starting with the feature THE VIEW FROM TALL and short film VIRGIN TERRITORY. Both films and their directors were honored with awards from ARTemis.

The day also featured the ANIMATION & EXPERIMENTAL and POWGIRLS/YOUTH showcases and the festival wrapped up with LUNAFEST and closing night reception.

It was an amazing weekend full of celebrating the POWer of Women!  Thank you to all of you for being a part of our 10th Annual Festival!
Much love from the POWFest Team!
